Day Four in Stockholm

After another great breakfast we boarded a bus for a city tour. There are 18 people on this tour riding in a bus that seats 32, so lots of room to spread out! First stop was a absolutely fabulous museum where they house the ship “Vasa” which after being built for the king on its maiden voyage took on water from the gun ports and sank in 90 ft of water only a few thousand feet from the shipyard. The Dutch ship, designer took off back to Holland when he saw the ship sink. 300 years later it was dug up by the Swedes and after years of painstaking restoration, was housed in a museum made just for it. After that museum we walked to the old town which has narrow streets and colorful buildings. Finally we stopped at a candy-cane store and learned how to make the candy. That was a lot of fun and we donated the candy cane to the guide who distributes it to hotel employees along our route. I thought my candy cane was inspired, albeit non traditional. We did keep some for ourselves of course!

Then back to hotel for rest and Kathy and I had dinner at a fish house which was good, followed by my quest for licorice ice cream which was partially successful. Ice cream was brown not black so the search continues.

The craftsmanship on the ship is beautiful. Im glad they were able to restore it. I never thought about liquorice ice cream, i hope you are able to find some. I wonder if the ice cream is usually grey or brownish?
